South Ogden Utah
South Ogden UtahSouth Ogden City was originally known as Burch Creak. South Ogden was originally settled in 1848, the land was previously owned by the Mexican government but was acquired by the United States. The name Burch Creak came from one of the original pioneers to settle in the area, Daniel Burch Jr. South Ogden was a quiet small farming community with large open fields and was known for its rolling hills and beautiful mountains. South Ogden much like Ogden is known for its amazing outdoors activities and experiences. Along the Wasatach Front Mountian range there are many different trails and hikes to go on to enjoy the beautiful weather year around. Now beautiful weather year around is subject to personal preference some are more inclined to like the warm spring and fall, others prefer either the hot summer days or the cold yet snowy days of winter. No mater what the season the trails are open year around. In the spring summer and fall months hiking, biking and jogging the trails is very popular. In the winter time hiking can still be done if there is not much snowfall, because the trails are not maintained or shoveled in the winter they are not easily accessible by just a boot. South Ogden Typically gets 41 inches of snow fall per year and has an average or 224 sunny days per year. With all that snowfall in the winter the trails are more commonly used for snowshoeing and cross country skiing. There are also a lot of great hills to find for tubing and sledding with the family. The trail system on South Ogden connects the the Ogden trail system in a few different areas, the Bonneville Shoreline trail being the main trail that can be fallowed to Salk Lake City. The Bonneville shoreline trail comes from the shore line of the ancient Lake Bonneville That covered all of salt lake valley and took up one third of all of what Utah is now. Over 14,000 years ago during the Pleistocene Epoch where there was worldwide temperature changes happening the lake flooded and leaked down to over time what is known as the Great Salt Lake. If you hike up along the trail you can still sometimes find old sea shells in the ground, it is pretty amazing. South Ogden has some of the best trails, nature spots and views. |
